These are the guestbook entries for 2011.
I read the Village Voice religiously just to find out if Vassar was in NY for a gig. Turns out the only 2 times I missed the publications (1981-1999) were the 2 times he was in NY. I could still kill myself. Honestly, I have seen Miles Davis and Jean Luc Ponty and Led Zepplin back when I was a pumpkin, but I will always regret missing that stunning buck of a man with the right fiddle.
Bless you, I hope he was a kind as he was cool.
Bye for now, maybe we'll all get together for some boogie with the Count and all the good folks from the south...someday.

There has been nothing posted about Midge since her 2008 surgeries. I have frequently visited the web site for information to no avail. I spoke with Midge some time in 2006 and found her to be such a nice down to earth person. We chatted for about ten minutes. I have been very concerned since there has been no information as to her condition since that 2008 posting. I hope and pray that she came through the ordeal and has returned to good health. A concerned fan.

Just signing in to Thank Vassar, Millie and family for the 3 years I played with the Master. I was in the Vassar Clements Band. I have played with many of the greats and Vassar was the one who surprised me the most on stage with unexpected licks. It was and honor. Being a bassist who was lucky enough to play with Duane Allman, Lucinda Williams, Billy Joe Shaver, The North Mississippi Allstars and many more, I can't say enough about Vassar's genius. He had the guts to record an instrumental called Necropolis written by myself and Dave Perkins. His first fusion tune. Thanks for a wonderful ride, Richard Hombre Price

Dear Folks, It was a surprise to me to learn of the news of my dear friend's passing. I had worked around Vassar Clements at the Marin County Blue Grass Festival in which it was dedicated to him because of the fact that it was to be his birthday during that week in the month of April. In fact I attended his little birthday party inside the Holiday Inn either on the 24th or the 25th? I cannot remember exactly and presently that is important in order to get my information for my book that I am presently writing and almost near completion, correct. Since my birthday was on April 23rd, I know for a fact his was a day or two later from mine- I'm guessing the 25th. I seem to recall him performing before the audience on a Friday at the festival, because that evening during his birthday party, Vassar and a few of his friends sat in a circle in the middle of the living room and played for hours. I was impressed with his stamina, I mean he just played a set at the festival/concert earlier, and there he was just playing and playing and having a good old time. I am sorry to have read the news of his departure and unfortunately find out nearly 6 years later. God Bless and rest his soul and wish you all good tidings as well. I became a big fan after hearing the Nitty Gritty Dirt band's album "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" many years ago. I was just listening to it again today as I transferred the album to my Ipod, now it's more convenient to listen to my favorite music more often. It's great to hear him again with all the other stars.

I was saddened to hear of Vassar's passing today. He headlined an episode of "Ramblin'" which I worked on while studying at Ohio University. The recording occured at Athens, Ohio, PBS affiliate WOUB-TV in late 1979 or early 1980, I believe. I wonder if a copy of the program exists?

I truly do miss the man.I had the good fortune to hear him play many times at Live Oak.Vassar always brought his A game.He was a beautiful humane being,always cordial an acessible.If there were more Vassar's in this world it would be a lot sweeter place.

Meeting Vassar in Wausau WI. was a dream come true I had listened to him for many years, being a country D.J. I came across a lot of his records and a lot that he played on. When a friend of ours John Ullrich asked me if I would like to come and see the show Vassar Clements & Friends at the Grand theater Jan. 2001 I was there a day early and I only lived a few blocks from the theater, I was blessed to be able to meet and talk with Vassar and get some pictures that I cherish to this day he was an Idol to me. I have no words to say what it meant to me to be able to meet a legend, I have interviewed a lot of Big name artists in the thirty years of radio but Vassar was unique the most down to earth, honest man I have ever talked to. He will always have a very special place in my heart. Thank you Vassar for all pleasure you have given the world.

I have been enjoying Vassar's music for over 40 years. Saw him once in Fayetteville, AR playing with local legend Frankie Kelly. Vassar will always be my favorite fiddler. My favorite album is the one he played with Sam Bush, Norman Blake, Tut Taylor and David Holland. Got a question about a song that I have him playing on at least three albums - 'Good Woman's Love'. Was this a favorite of his?

His work w/ Nitty-Gritty-Dirt-Band Vol. One got me into fiddling in '71. "Lonesome Fiddle Blues" is the PERFECT bluegrass anthem. His work w/ Richard 'Dicky' Betts also was also monumental. So my Dad was born in '27 and he died in '02. Vassar was two years older and died in '05. That's what good living (& power-fiddlin) will do! Huh??

I was given the "Mercury" Album by a girl freind on my bithday ...She walked into a music store and asked'"What is the best fiddle album you have?.....Later in years ,I met( and played with) Vassar at Skippers Smoke House in Tampa..2001...He sighed the entire back of my violin (of which I still play and cherish to this day)....He was incredibily crodial and friendly in every way to me....One of my favorites off the album was a song intitled,"Long way around"...that vassar wrote...he told me himself over the phone...(he gave me his cell phone no.)However many years later,a series of "Old and in the Way" Cd's came out and called the tune,.."Jerry's Tune"....Not True!!!!...a B.S. commetary on the inner liner notes of the CD is untrue/ per Vassar...PS....I would love for anyone to contact me with a way to contact Bryan Goodpastor( AK VASSAR JR.)who is down in Florida and has played with Vassar many a time....

Hi Millie, Don't know if you remember me but I use to work for Frank Chiavarini at the Hot Club and I saw your dad perform there a few times. I was the one that asked your dad to do a performance when the Hot Club was doing bad and needed a helping hand. Anyhow, your dad came through as always. Best concert ever. I had the fine pleasure of listening to Vassar in person 20 or so times in my life. Several of these times his music brought tears to my eyes. He basically converted me from a punk kid to a reverent listener the first time I received a signature Vassar Clements two handed handshake and smile, which was to be the first of several while I was on the staff of the Magnolia Music events. I will also never forget a few choice momments such as when David Grisman called him out and asked him to sing or seeing him smoking his pipe finger picking his fiddle. He is truly missed.
