My father Charles Clements loved his work for years. As I grow older I have a greater appreciation for his unique style of play.

I saw Vassar and his bands perform many times at AmazingGrace in Evanston, IL and a few other locations. I was delighted to view the photographs of Vassar with his family. It's a side of Vassar that, as a fan, I wouldn't have known. Watching Vassar perform in the 70s and 80s was a tremendous thrill. It was wild how he started by playing with local musicians, than began traveling with his own band. Either way it was exciting. The musicians he played with looked as thrilled to be on stage with Vassar as his fans were to be in the audience.

I have been a big fan of Country and Bluegrass music for some time now. Whenever I come across something the Vassar played on I know it...my ears know it. My ears have good taste. Be well.

I had the pleasure of opening a show for Vassar in Champaign, IL at "Panama Red's" with my band at the time Bear Creek Canyon on April 12th 1978. Vassar and all of his band were great to work with ! He took us onto his bus and after the show invited us to the hotel where we had a great time listening to stories. It was there that we realized his birthday was April 23rd and mine was April 24th ! A great birthday present to be able to meet and play with such a fabulous musician and person !! RIP Vassar

Proud to say I too am a Kissimmee Kid. Only meet Vassar once but found out years later in my travels how famous he really was . And there is no dispute about how talented he was . Play on Vassar Blake Williams

In 1970 the band I was playing with was on the same show case with The Earl Scruggs Review in Kitchner Ontario. The drummer that I was working with and I sat on the bed in Vassar's room and held and marveled at this old fiddle as we knew that it was the famous fiddle that was in the picture on the Will The Circle Be Unbroken album by The Knitty Gritty Dirt Band and friends. I had the honor of meeting Vassar and playing a tune with him during a trip he made to New Jersey in the early 1990's. I was introduced to him by a mutual friend. I'm an amateur fiddler, and I can tell you that having dinner and playing music with this legend and down to earth great guy was an experience I will never forget. He signed an album cover and let me take a photo with him. It meant a lot to me. I'm truly sorry to hear of his passing. The world has lost a great artist,and a truly good person. The first time I noticed Vassar's playing was the incredible way he ended the "House of the Rising Sun" from a dobro album by Mike Auldridge. Such a haunting melody and improvisation! I also enjoyed the wonderful job he did on the "Circle Be Unbroken" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I also enjoyed the later album called "Old and In the Way" in which he did some really fine fiddling. I always wanted to meet him and thank him for his contributions to great music. Him and Chubby Wise are my all time favorites!

I first saw Vasser at Fish Eating Creek festival in Florida about 1972. My friend and I were lucky enough to be invited into the private tent for a jam session with all the performers. It was majic. Ten years or so later, in Tucson Myself and a carload of friens going home passed a biestro advertising Vasser and Son. I pulled over and we all went in and had a tremendous time. I will miss him and the music he made his own.
